The Volunteer
 Appreciation Dinner

Each year the CHS Board of Directors host a special evening to honor and thank the rank-and-file volunteers. A little entertainment along with great food and a chance to visit with other volunteers make this a special event we all look forward to.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are especially looking for some key leadership positions at this time. Here are the descriptions of what is involved. But if these are not for you, read on! There are lots of opportunities mentioned on this page! If you are interested in any of the Humane Society or Animal Services volunteer positions, please fill out the form at the end of this page or call us at (209)736-9417.

Humane Society Public Relations Coordinator

  • Coordinate publicity, media advertising purchases for CHS sponsored events. Discuss ad budget with Fund Raising Chair and individual event chairs
  • Board must approve ad purchases over a specified amount. Get approval and send proofs to Fund Raising Chair or President before ordering ads
  • Provide newsletter editor with complete information about CHS sponsored events for each issue (one to two issues or more before event)
  • Develop a new marketing plan for this year and the future
  • Create a new Marketing  Committee including the Fundraising Chair, President, interested board members and community members to develop new events and fund raising ideas
  • Contact local media with story ideas
  • Clippings--If you don't have access to all publications for clippings, find members/friends to save them for you. Check the publication early to make sure it is printed accurately--if not, contact them immediately to correct
  • Keep media email address book current. Call if the email comes back. Before sending to golf courses, home owner association newsletters, confirm current information. Media Contact address book uses Outlook Express.

Humane Society County Events Coordinator

Arrange and manage our informational booths at county events, including:

  • Seek out appropriate events and register our booth with the planners
  • Locate sufficient volunteers to staff the event and provide the volunteers with the details of what they are to do at the booth
  • Arrange for the appropriate supplies for the booth: brochures and flyers, promotional items, donation jar, special incentives
  • Arrange with our supply people for these things to be available on the days of the events
  • Supervise the set-up for the booth or arrange for someone to do that
  • Supervise the takedown of the booth or arrange for that

Adopt-a-Pet Team Leader

Develop and manage the regular and special adoption events for the Humane Society, including:

  • Identify appropriate sites and times for events
  • Coordinate available animals with HS dog and cat adoption teams and the Supervisor of Animal Services
  • Be sure that needed supplies are available and adequate for the events
  • Recruit and train volunteers to participate in these events (in conjunction with the Volunteer Supervisor)
  • See that adequate notice is given for events (press, flyers, website, etc.)
  • Supervise adoption events from set-up through take-down
  • Oversee event adoptions in conjunction with dog and cat adoption team leaders and AC supervisor
  • Complete any follow-up tasks after each event (reports, acknowledgements, etc.)

There are many more ways to get involved:

  • We can always use more people working in our adoption and foster programs for cats and dogs
  • We need people on specific dates throughout the year to help staff our informational booths at county events
  • We can always use people to help with bulk mailings: folding, stuffing, sticking.
  • We need people who would like to help with education in our schools, with membership recruitment, and with fundraising

AND, if you want to work closely with the dogs and cate, there are now volunteer opportunities at the county Animal Services shelter in San Andreas. You can:

  • Walk and play with the dogs
  • Clean cat cages or dog runs
  • Assist with the annual summer Rabies Clinics
  • Transport animals to rescue organizations or other agencies
