Why Neuter or Spay Your Pet?
- Spaying and neutering prevents pet population explosion. A roaming male dog or cat can impregnate several females in heat in a single day.
- Spayed and neutered pets are better, more affectionate companions.
- Spayed and neutered pets live longer, healthier lives.
- Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer.
- Spaying before the first heat cycle greatly reduces the chance of breast cancer.
- Neutering reduces the incidence of prostate cancer and disorders.

We can help
The Calaveras Humane Society can help defray some of the expense
of spay and neuter operations on dogs and cats. We offer discount certificates to county residents throughout the year and are also available at the county's Animal Facility in San Andreas.
Certificate are valid for use at all county veterinarians and many beyond county borders. The spay/neuter discount is: $45 for a female dog $30 for a male dog $30 for a female cat $20 for a male cat To obtain discount certificates please call us at (209) 736-9417. Make an appointment with an area veterinary clinic; take the certificate with you. You pay the remainder of the charge for the surgery."Last year CHS spent over $63,000 for spay/neuter surgeries for foster animals, 2005 Spay Day free cat surgeries and redeemed discount certificates. That's 1834 dogs and cats CHS spayed or neutered last year, said CHS president Jon Dashner."
