CHS settles into new space!  Cat adoption center and renovations!

Retail concept approved!

Call for artists and store manager!

New Space.  On Friday, September 1, more than a score of volunteers found new muscles as we moved our office from Vallecito to the new space in San Andreas.  The move went smoothly, thanks in large part to Sally Rabfougel, who organized the packing and unpacking of the office, Debby Beaufort, who mustered the forces and organized the move, and Blair Wiley, who handled all the technical aspects of  the move.

We appreciate all of those who helped us with our move!

Here are just a few photos of our adventurous day.

Trailer is packed. Let's roll! Installing the new sign Danger! Eunice plus hammer Whew!!!

Cat Adoption Center and Renovations.  On the following Monday, after the Friday Board meeting approval, space reconfiguration began.  Walls came down, new walls were built, carpet was removed and doors were installed - all in preparation for our new Adoption Center and retail store

Out with the old and in with the new!

Retail Concept Approved.  And speaking of the retail store -- the Board has approved the Business Unit's proposal to establish a combination pet and art boutique, featuring local artisan handcrafted animal art and jewelry, as well as a Thrift Store Annex, which will be fed by our generous donations from the successful Arnold store.  We will not be taking Thrift Store donations in San Andreas at this time, but may do so on a limited basis after the store gets it's "feet on the ground" and a new van or truck.

So now we have two needs for our store

1st  Crafters.  Since we have so much artistic talent within our organization, we are putting out a "call for artists".  If you or someone you know produces high-quality animal-related art, jewelry or crafts, we want to hear from you if you would be willing to sell your items in our store on a 60/40 consignment basis (you price it, CHS keeps 40% for the animals).  As long as it's animal-related (cards, wood carvings, animal toys, beds, jewelry, leather goods....you name it), if you want to have it featured in our store here's what you do:  take a few photos of your items, give us an idea of your pricing, let us know you agree to a 60/40 consignment, give us your contact information and mail that to Lynn Keever, c/o CHS, P.O. Box 1390, San Andreas, CA 95249.  We'd like to hear from you by the end of September.

2nd Store Manager & Sales person.  We will be hiring two paid employees for the store - a manager and a cashier/sales person/stock person.  We will be running an ad in the Calaveras Enterprise but what better place to seek talent than from our volunteer group.  But understand our standards are high, so we'll be looking at lots of resumes from within and outside our organization. Here are the requirements and how to apply for store manager:

Retail Store Manager will manage new retail store in San Andreas and will be full time with some benefits, including vacation pay. The Manager will be responsible for managing staff, inventory control, daily sales tabulation, reporting and acting as ambassador to CHS.  This manager must have superior customer service skills, tact and diplomacy in dealing with public, 3+ years retail management or equivalent experience and must be a demonstrated team player.   Daily company vehicle travel to/from Arnold required.  Beginning pay @ $13/hr.  Send resume to P.O. Box 564, Arnold, CA 95223

Cashier/Sales Person/Stock Person will start at a wage of $8/hr and may be either full or part time.

If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please send your resume in by the end of September and mark on the envelope for which position you are applying.

We're making huge strides forward as an organization and this is an exciting time to be a volunteer for the Calaveras Humane Society!

How does it come apart? We need hugs, too!
